Ecology

Since April 2008 Ecology Surveys for protected species are mandatory for new developments, major alterations and demolitions.

These surveys are required so that the effect of development on protected species can be considered and then mitigated during the planning process.

BECL ecologists can perform these surveys, aiming to minimize any compromise to development and thereby saving you money.

Many surveys are time specific and can generally best be undertaken between April and October each year, although this varies between species. It is vital to include an ecologist at an early stage of your planned works, otherwise you could suffer a six month delay.

The following is a list of wildlife that may have to be considered to gain planning consent:

  • Badgers
  • Bats
  • Nesting Birds
  • Barn Owls
  • Amphibians and Reptiles, including Great Crested Newts
