To be most effective, wind turbines have to be correctly sited - this means in an exposed position in an area where there is a good average wind speed.
Wind speed databases can help determine the average wind speed of your site but they are not necessarily accurate as they cover an area of 1km˛. Your site may be on an exposed hilltop in an unpromising area, or maybe you are in the valley bottom with exposed surrounding land.
In the right spot, wind can be an attractive source of renewable energy, with payback at around 8 – 10 years. Only in very exceptional spots is wind likely to provide payback within 6 years.
Wind turbine benefits have been greatly oversold (and continue to be) by many manufacturers and distributors. When we predict yields, we will make honest forecasts rather than outrageous claims. BECL has researched the market and chosen to distribute products from a variety of accredited installers.
If you are interested in harnessing energy from wind, contact us for a free desk top survey, or come and see our demonstration turbine at one of our regular open days.
If you then wish to take matters further we can arrange a site survey. This addresses all aspects of a wind turbine installation including foundation size, connection to your supply and siting of the turbine. We will also predict the yield. We can also help with the planning application and ground works.
