Sustainable Construction

The Code for Sustainable Homes is an environmental impact rating system for housing. This sets new standards for energy efficiency and sustainability. This is already coming into effect with affordable housing and the Government has set a target for every house to be carbon neutral by 2016.

This means that energy saving initiatives will have to be incorporated into every building. This will include not only excellent levels of insulation, but also the use of sustainably sourced building materials (where possible) and other initiatives such as grey water recycling and the likely incorporation of renewable energy sources such as solar, wind or heat pumps.

Whilst this will increase building costs, it will lead to occupier savings through reduced energy consumption that can be partially or wholly provided from renewable sources.

BECL provide both assessment and consultancy on the Code for Sustainable Homes, advising upon the most practical way the standards can be met at the minimum cost.

We can also offer services for BREEAM assessments (an assessment of the construction methods, building materials, environmental impact and energy use) in Eco-homes and Office Buildings.
